The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year Sixth Form qualification developed by the International Baccalaureate Organisation in Geneva. Students take six subjects across six subject groups (languages, individuals + societies, sciences, maths, the arts, plus a personalised choice), three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. On top of the six subjects, students complete three core requirements: the Extended Essay (a 4,000-word independent research paper), Theory of Knowledge (a course in epistemology), and CAS (Creativity-Activity-Service — minimum 150 hours of structured extracurricular engagement). The total possible score is 45.

Compared to A-Levels (typically 3 subjects in depth) or AP (typically 4-6 subjects with college-level rigour), the IB Diploma is broader — more subjects, more requirement to maintain humanities + sciences + maths + languages across all 19 months. UK universities accept it through UCAS conversion. US universities accept it directly and often grant college credit for HL subjects. European universities frequently prefer it because it most closely resembles their domestic baccalaureate qualifications.

If your child wants the option to switch to A-Levels at G11

Regents Pattaya is structurally unique — it's the only school in the region offering BOTH pathways. Students can change course at the end of Y10 IGCSE without leaving the school. For families uncertain between IBDP and A-Level at age 16, this is the structural fit.

If pass-rate consistency matters most

Garden International Rayong published a 100% IBDP pass rate in 2023 (Garden Rayong examination-results page). The same page lists 89% in 2022 and 100% in 2021, so the three-year trend is not three consecutive 100% years. The school is CIS-accredited and a current FOBISIA member; FOBISIA says it joined in 2002 or earlier. Trade-off: the journey from Pattaya is address-specific and must be tested in school traffic.

If you want IBDP with a multilingual layer

St. Andrews Green Valley publishes Dutch language and culture lessons from Reception through Secondary School alongside the British/IB track, with CNaVT and IBDP Dutch routes. If your child is American-curriculum-bound and wants IBDP optionality

International School Eastern Seaboard (ISE) is the only school in the region pairing the American high-school diploma pathway with a fully-authorised IBDP at G11-G12. 22 years as an IB World School (authorised since 2004). Smaller school (current enrolment not published) — intimate teaching with the trade-off of smaller cohort dynamics.
